Ducks
AnatinaeAnseriformes
Description
Although all of the ducks spend most of their time in and around water, their diets vary greatly and may include seeds, plant tubers, invertebrates, mollusks, and fish. The male duck is typically brightly colored with ornate patterns while the female's plumage is more cryptic. Most ducks are short-distance migrants. Many of the ducks found in North America breed in Canada and the northern US, and winter in the southern US and Canada. Ducks typically do not form long-term pair bonds and the female performs all parental care.
